Window Seat byMatt Low

“The Window Seat series is my attempt to capture on other peoples’ faces, the feeling I have of being compelled to stare out of the window when I fly. I fly a lot, I find looking down endlessly fascinating. It’s one of the few times that I still get a thrill of child-like amazement. I like to think that on the inside. The people I capture have that feeling too.”

I do love staring out of the window of not just plane, but every moving vehicles. It gives me time to think, get inspirations, evaluating my past, or even make some random scenarios in my head. It’s relaxing too. Like giving your brain a different situation: looking at everything’s moving while you are static at the same time.

But there’s one thing special from staring out through airplane’s window: that makes you realize how small you are, how insignificant yourself compare to this world. It’s like reminding me that there’s no reason for us as tiny creatures to ever feel conceited or more superior than others. We really are nothing but a small piece of the universe.

A man came to Ibn Abbas (ra) and said, “I asked for a women’s hand in marriage, and she refused me. Someone else asked for her hand and she accepted and married him. I felt jealous so I killed her. Will my repentance be accepted?”

Ibn Abbas (ra) asked, “Is your mother still alive?”
He said, “No.”
So Ibn Abbas (ra) told him, “Repent to Allah and do your best to draw close to Him.”Then Ataa’ ibn Yasaar (ra) who over heard their conversation asked, “why did you ask him if his mother was still alive?”Ibn Abbas (ra) said, “Because I know of no other deed that brings people closer to Allah than kind treatment and respect towards one’s mother.”[ Bukhari, Al-Adab al-Mufrad, 1/45 baab birr al-umm.]
